Freya Skye Live Review
Freya Skye has been appearing all over my TikTok For You Page over the last few weeks, and when I saw she was playing in Brisbane, I decided to see what all the hype was about. I didn’t know much of her music outside of a few snippets from TikTok, but I knew she was a rising pop star with a huge following already, all at just 16 years old.
The fact that Jack Gray was opening was the extra cherry on top. I’ve seen Jack perform multiple times before and he’s always great.
I arrived at The Fortitude Music Hall just before doors and was greeted by one of the longest lines I’ve ever seen at the venue. It wrapped around the block and was filled with teenagers, young adults and a lot of dads.
As soon as the doors opened, fans poured into the venue, some almost sprinting to get as close to the stage as possible. It was honestly really wholesome to watch. Seeing so many young people genuinely excited about live music made me so happy. Within 30 minutes, the venue was packed shoulder to shoulder with excited fans.
At 7:45, Jack Gray took to the stage and was greeted by a roaring crowd. He performed solo with backing tracks, which helped make the set feel much bigger than a traditional acoustic performance. The crowd instantly loved him, with some fans already singing along to every word.
What impressed me most was how engaged everyone was. There were organic crowd moments throughout the set, from phone torches lighting up the room during slower songs to hands swaying through multiple tracks. It’s sadly not always the case for support acts, but this crowd gave Jack their full attention from start to finish. Honestly, it was one of the most respectful and engaged crowds I’ve seen in years.
The second the lights dimmed for Freya Skye, the room erupted and I very quickly put my earplugs in.
Freya appeared at the top of the staircase on stage before launching into Can’t Fake It. I assumed it was a fan favourite because I have never heard a crowd scream along so loudly. I quickly learnt that this is just normal for Freya’s crowd and it’s this loud in every single song.
For someone who is only 16 years old, Freya’s confidence is unbelievable. There’s dancing, crowd interaction and constant movement around the stage. Not once did she look nervous or uncomfortable. She already performs like someone who has been doing this professionally for years. It’s so clear how much she loves performing and adores her fans.
A few songs later, she played an unreleased track called Bad Taste. Somehow, the crowd already knew every word and screamed it back just as loudly as the released songs. In that moment, I realised I was watching the next huge pop star.
One of my favourite parts of the night was simply looking around the room. There were people of all ages having the time of their lives. I always love seeing fans put effort into their outfits and dress to match an artist’s aesthetic. There’s something really special about seeing young people find an artist they connect with and fully embrace that experience.
Next came Who I Thought I Knew, which quickly became my favourite song of the night. Stripping things back slightly gave Freya the chance to really showcase her vocals and honestly, my jaw was on the floor.
A few songs later came Someone to Love, which saw the first outfit change of the night. I’m always a fan of artists switching up their looks throughout a show to match the songs aesthetic.
Then came Petty. This was probably the loudest moment of the entire night.
The song is everything a great pop song should be: fun, catchy and impossible not to dance to. Every single person in the room joined in on the choreography, including the dads. Yes, I saw you dads. It was one of the most wholesome moments of the night and I felt very lucky to be there for it.
As the show neared its end, Freya closed with two of her biggest songs, Silent Treatment and Gold’s Gone. Both created huge singalong moments and the kind of memories fans will be talking about for years.
For Gold’s Gone, Freya appeared on stage in a gold dress with a green Australia jersey thrown over the top. It was the perfect choice for the first Australian show of the tour. The crowd absolutely loved it. Hundreds of phones instantly went into the air as everyone tried to capture their favourite artist wearing their country’s merch.
As she thanked the crowd one final time, you could tell she genuinely meant it and is grateful for her fans. There’s already such a strong connection between Freya and her fans, and it’s easy to see why people are so invested in her journey.
I walked out of The Fortitude Music Hall genuinely blown away. Freya Skye knows exactly how to put on a great pop show. Every moment felt engaging, every song had the crowd involved, and the energy never dipped for a second. It was also quite possibly the loudest crowd I have ever experienced.
There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Freya Skye will be headlining arenas and stadiums in the future. And when that happens, I’ll be able to say I saw her at The Fortitude Music Hall first.
