Mitch: Your sophomore album, Desire Is an Angel, just came out on October 2. Do you mind sharing a bit about it and the themes that can be found throughout the album?
Asha: It’s all about desire and how powerful desire is, how spiritual it is, and how it plays a very important role in our lives at all times.
Mitch: What do you hope people feel while listening?
Asha: I hope people get to reflect on what they want and their relationship to desire. I want people just to feel connected to their desires and hopefully feel more connected to themselves.
Mitch: If the album was turned into a movie, what would the plot be? What would the movie look and feel like?
Asha: Ooh, I think it would definitely be like The Wizard of Oz but the yellow brick road is actually purple and all of the side characters are angels.
Mitch: What’s your favourite memory from making the album?
Asha: We went over to London to make the album, which was very beautiful and special. I think it was important to leave Brisbane and make music in a completely different place. What I found really special was coming back to Brisbane and I recorded a bunch more stuff by myself at my parents’ house in the lounge room. That was very fun and a very special part of making the album.
Mitch: You’re heading on tour in November to celebrate the album release! Why should people come? What can they expect from one of your shows?
Asha: I think I want the shows to be a bit more than just a pop or a rock show. I want it to be a bit of a philosophical experience about life and being a human. I want these shows to be really heartfelt and beautiful and I think people should come along to learn all about their desires.
Mitch: What’s the best way for people to support you?
Asha: Buying the album on Bandcamp and ordering the vinyl and the merch. And also, coming to see the show live for sure.
Mitch: Who are some emerging AUS/NZ musicians that people should get behind?
Asha: I love Clancy. Clancy’s freaking awesome. She just put out a new song. I really love Sarah Levins. She’s a Sydney folk artist. I also really love Beryl!
